Government of India Bans 59 Chinese Apps

Amid the recent heightened tension between India & China, the government of India has taken yet another step and on Monday 29th June shared a list of 59 Chinese applications that were to be banned with the immediate effect. The list includes prominent apps like TikTok, WeChat, ShareIt, UCbrowser, Shein, Club Factory and many more.
The government said that these applications are engaged in activities “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order.”
As per the statement of Ministry of Information Technology, a number of complaints had been lodged by the users reporting the possible safety concerns and that these applications could be sending a lot of user data to servers outside India.
This ban can undoubtedly bring losses for both the countries. With the ban of TikTok in India, its parent company Bytedance can lose up to $6 bn.
On the other hand there can be a possible impact on the commercial real estate as well as the employment in the Indian market.
People have been seen both reacting in favor calling this move a ‘digital strike’ and refuting government’s decision about the ban. Government on the other hand has been promising people to introduce better platforms and applications that would be ‘made in India’ for them.
