Gujarat, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Emerge as Best Performers in Government Startup Rankings

The government on Friday announced its state startup rankings in which Gujarat, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands emerged as best performers. 22 states and 3 Union Territories participated in the second edition of the initiative. The government aims to promote startup culture and Entrepreneurial vigor through the rankings.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) state’s startup rankings also marked Karnataka and Kerala as the top performers. An evaluation committee comprising independent experts from the startup ecosystem assessed the responses across various parameters. Getting feedback from beneficiaries was a major part of the evaluation.

DPIIT also discussed how the states can advance the startup ecosystem in the regions. The key learnings will help the states formulate policies to nurture entrepreneurs and will boost startups to come up with new solutions.

Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal applauded the startups for their innovation. Further, he encouraged them to bring ideas, dealing with challenges on the nutrition front of the village and panchayat level.

The government has been actively promoting startup culture starting with Make in India, and initiatives like Support to Training and Employment Programme (STEP), Startup India, and Standup India. The ecosystem is booming with new ventures which are coming up with innovative ideas and feasible models. The nation is expecting to see 100 unicorns by 2025, creating over 1.1 million direct jobs.
