Oil marketing companies (OMCs) Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd have started to rope in applications from startups that can provide delivery of door-to-door diesel through mobile petrol pumps.

The OMCs expect that this agreement with startups can push the number of mobile petrol pumps in India to grow by four-five times, to almost 1000–1500 pumps within a year from an estimate of 200–300 pumps at present.

A latent demand of around 300–400 TKL (thousand kilolitre) per month for door to door delivery of diesel or around 5 percent of the total demand has been estimated by OMC.

These mobile petrol pumps can be beneficial for users of stationary equipment like generator sets, heavy machinery, earth moving equipment, and mobile towers.

According to industry experts, this move is expected to garner around Rs 9,000 crore of investments.

Organisations like FuelBuddy, Repos Energy, Pepfuels, MyPetrolPump and Humsafar already provide mobile diesel services.
