PM Modi Launches “Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge”

Days after the government of India has banned 59 Chinese apps, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) in partnership with Atal Innovation Mission — Niti Aayog of India has come up with a new initiative. On July 4th, the prime minister made an official announcement on twitter and launched ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge’ for techies, start-up communities.
The objective of this challenge is to support and build a string ecosystem for budding apps and to encourage the Digital India initiative.
The challenge is going to be categorized into two tracks: Track 1- Innovation Challenge, which will identify the best indigenous apps already being used by citizens and have a tremendous growth potential in their respective categories. These categories will include productivity and work from home, health and wellness, business & news and games etc.
To be completed in a month, this challenge coming up with various incentives is an effort to create an ecosystem where startups ideate and innovate to serve their nation better.
There will be a leader board to keep a check and a sense of competition alive.
Subsequent to this, the Track 2 is to seek the startups and entrepreneurs and help and encourage them to ideate and innovate and roll out applications.
The Prime minister, on a LinkedIn post stated that “He said that there is a lot of enthusiasm among the start-up and tech ecosystem to innovate, develop and promote homegrown apps”. He also urged the tech communities to come forward and perform their bit to march forward towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat (self-sustained nation).
