Strengthening Cyber-Security, the Indian Army Launched an Encrypted Messaging App SAI

The Indian Army has launched Secure Application for the Internet (SAI), an android application that will offer end-to-end secure voice, text, and video calling services. The application developed by the army official caters to cybersecurity concerns by preventing theft or leaking of classified information and data.
The app developed by Col Sai Shankar has been successfully tested by the government’s nodal agency CERT-in empanelled auditor and Army Cyber Group. Ministry of Defence praised the efforts of Shankar on introducing an app that can protect sensitive data from online espionages of countries like Pakistan and China.
The ministry had deliberately asked army personnel to stay away from social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram. The indigenous app accords the government’s notion of ‘Self-reliant India’ by employing local in-house servers and coding.
The app will be used by the pan- India army for internal communication purposes. The development of an indigenous messaging app that offers end to end encryption feature has laid the foundation for developing a similar app for wider use across the nation.
